DERMAPLANING  - cOFFS hARBOUR nsw

Discover the secret to glowing, radiant skin with dermaplaning at Enhanced Massage and Beauty in Coffs Harbour. Our non-invasive, painless procedure removes dead skin cells and fine hair for a youthful complexion.

What is dermaplaning?

This simple procedure for your face is a hair removal procedure that involves using a specialized surgical blade to gently exfoliate the top layer of the skin removing the dead skin cells and fine hair (vellus hairs) from the face.

Skincare users are sure to love this solution – not only does it leave your skin smoother, brighter, more radiant and youthful but optimizes absorption of products for maximum benefit. Contrary to popular belief, peach fuzz or fine hairs on your face (vellus hairs) does not grow back darker or thicker after dermaplaning.

3 Typical skin pain points that dermaplaning can solve

Dull, Uneven Skin

If you're frustrated with dull skin or even skin, dermaplaning can help to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

Ineffective Skincare

If you feel like your skincare products aren't working as well as they should, dermaplaning can enhance their absorption and effectiveness.

Embarrassing Peach Fuzz

If you're self-conscious about the peach fuzz (vellus hairs) on your face, dermaplaning can remove it safely and painlessly, leaving your skin smoother and more even in texture.

What to Expect During a Dermaplaning Treatment

The dermaplaning treatments which we offer typically takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete and is performed by a qualified aesthetician. The aesthetician will use a sterile surgical blade to gently scrape the surface of your skin, removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. You may feel a slight scratching sensation, but it is not painful and will leave with a radiant glow.

It's important to work with a licensed aesthetician who can recommend the best frequency for your needs. Generally, dermaplaning can be done every 4-6 weeks. However, it's important to avoid intense peels or deep acne scars treatments 2-3 weeks prior to the dermaplaning procedure, as well as avoiding direct sun exposure and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your newly exfoliated and sensitive skin.

How skin cells regenerate

Our epidermal turnover slows as we age, meaning revealing that fresh layer of skin underneath takes longer leaving the skin looking dull on top. Due to this exfoliation is important.

Dermaplaning FAQ's

This is a list of our most commonly asked questions about Dermaplaning.

Is dermaplaning painful?

While each individual will experience a different sensation, dermaplaning should not be a painful experience. Most experience it feeling much like it does when you gently scratch or rub your face with one of your fingers nails. You may also hear a slight scratching sound as the scalpel gently scrapes over the surface of your face.

When Not to Get Dermaplaning

This treatment is generally safe for all skin types, but there are some instances when it may not be recommended. If you have server active acne, skin infections, impaired barrier, sunburn, bleeding disorders or taking blood-thinning medication then unfortunately you are not a suitable candidate for this treatment.

It is important to be honest and upfront with your aesthetician to ensure you have the best possible treatment and outcome for your skin.

Can I dermaplane at home?

Working with a medical-grade surgical steel scalpel in this treatment is different from a at home dermaplaning blade or razor. Scalpels are super sharp and your aesthetician is trained on how to angle, manoeuvre and effectively use this tool. Attempting this treatment at home runs the risk of leaving yourself with nicks, ingrown hairs, stubble, or other injuries.

Will it cause my hair to grow back thicker or darker?

The answer is no. There is a common misconception that shaving causes the hair to grow back thicker and darker, however this not the case. The treatment does not affect your hair follicles nor impact the rate or how your facial hair grows. Your hair will continue growing at the same rate it always has after the treatment.

How long will my results last and how often should I have dermaplaning?

Results will vary for each individual, however typically the appearance of rejuvenated brightened skin will last about 3 – 4 weeks. This time frame also gives your skin the proper amount of time before needing another intense exfoliation after those dead skin cells have been sloughed off.

Our epidermal turnover slows as we age, meaning revealing that fresh layer of skin underneath takes longer leaving the skin looking dull on top. Due to this exfoliation is important. However the rate at how long you will need dermaplaning to remove your vellus hair can be 4 – 6 weeks or even longer depending on the speed of your natural hair growth.
